For doctoral students and their dissertation chairs
Dissertation feedback that guides. Never rewrites.
Aligned Scholar reads your prospectus or chapter, quotes your own words, and shows where your problem, purpose, questions and method stop connecting. It never writes your chapter, and your chair decides what matters.
A chat tool will rewrite your chapter for you. Aligned Scholar points to the line, says what it is not yet doing, and leaves the writing and the decision with you and your chair.

How it works
Three steps, for any chapter from the prospectus to the defense.
Upload your draft
A Word file or PDF of the chapter you are working on. Say whether it is a rough, revised or final draft.
Get a short list, not a wall
A few findings, most important first, each quoting your draft. Where the program is unsure, it asks instead of telling.
Revise with your chair
Take the notes to your chair. In the founding pilot, your faculty member can review them before you see them. Fewer findings on the next draft is progress.
See what the feedback looks like
A sample built from a made-up qualitative prospectus, in the same form a real read returns.
From the draft: purpose statement
"The purpose of this qualitative study is to explore how first-year teachers and their mentors describe support during the first semester."
From the draft: research questions
"RQ1. How do first-year teachers describe the support they receive?
RQ2. How do first-year teachers describe what makes support useful?"
Your purpose is clear and well focused on the first semester. It names two groups, first-year teachers and their mentors, but both research questions ask only about the teachers. I could not locate a question or data source that reaches the mentors. Did I miss it?
Consider whether mentors are a second group you plan to interview, which would need its own question, or wording to retire from the purpose. Your chair can help you decide which fits the study you want to do.
What it did not do
- It did not rewrite your purpose statement or your questions.
- It did not decide for you whether mentors belong in the study.
- It did not ask for Chapter 3 detail a prospectus does not owe yet.
Why trust it
Built by a dissertation chair
Dr. Jackie D. Ramey has spent 10 years as faculty and dissertation chair in an Education Leadership EdD program, serving as chair or committee member on 23+ published dissertations. The rules come from that work.
Faculty stay in charge
When a faculty member reviews, they see every finding first and release, hold or rewrite each one. Every finding points you back to your chair. The program is never called your chair, and it never approves anything.
Honest about its limits
It can miss things and it can be wrong, so it asks rather than asserts when it is unsure. It cannot see what you and your chair have already agreed. We are measuring its accuracy with faculty in the founding pilot.
How your draft is handled
We do not store your drafts. When you ask for a read, the text is sent to our AI provider to produce the feedback. The free tools run entirely in your browser and send nothing. We keep your name and email only to set up and manage your access.

Three ways in. Pick the one that fits where you are.
Use the free tools
The Golden Thread Check and the Alignment Matrix check show where your key words carry through your sections. They are rule-based, use no AI, and run in your browser.
